GUESS WHO WAS ON MTV FORA (AND MTV ON TV)!!!!! THIS GIRL WAS!!!!!! So basically I’m still freaking out and having minor (aka major) excitement attacks about having the opportunity to go DIY with MTV fora. And then on top of that, my prom dress segment got some air time to be on tv! Talk about surreal. Since I never vlog, mostly due to the fact that my life doesn’t consist of many interesting events, I decided to take you guys around with me to see the behind the scenes of the day! I’ve also included the link to the final cut of the DIY on the fora channel/site. Shout out to all the amazing girls at fora!!
Canvas shoes are my go-to on a spring day; comfy, functional and cute! Converse was generous enough to gift me a few pairs of their shoes, so I figured I would get creative with a pair (and yes, I realize this colour is totally cute!! but my skin tone and this aqua colour are not friends sadly). With a bit of bleach and some dye you can completely recreate any type of canvas shoe! Here’s how:
1. Aqua Converse (or any type of canvas sneaker)
2. Bleach – Walmart ($1.50)
3. Gloves – Dollarstore (or in a tie dye kit)
4. Plastic Containers – Dollarstore
5. Dye – Walmart (you can get single dyes or a tie dye kit for multiple colours)
In Bleach (diluted a tiny bit): 2 Hours
Dry Time: Overnight (or wash + dry in machine)
In Light Blue: 10 Minutes
First Level of Ombré: 3 Minutes
Second Level of Ombré: 3 Minutes
Dry Time: Overnight (or wash + dry in machine)
*Remember that all times will be slightly different depending on the colour of your sneakers and the colours that you choose to ombré with! I’ve only ombré-ed this one pair, so use the general methods and steps of this DIY and just keep an eye on how the colours are reacting! Good luck bebs!!! xo
I think everyone has a soft spot for routine videos, there’s no better feeling than seeing someone procrastinate to the same degree as yourself during their night routine. You guys seemed to be really into my last two pillow DIYs so I’m back with another super fun foodie DIY! Donut pillows are an actual thing you can get on a few different sites, and naturally I was up for the challenge to recreate it. Please be advised that you may be overcome with a strong urge to go buy a donut or eat your donut pillow, and it is recommended to go for the edible kind!
1. Donut Coloured Fabric – Fabricland
2. Icing Fabric – Fabricland
**FABRIC SIZING: I used 0.75 yards of icing fabric and 1.5 yards for donut fabric, your pillow can be any size but make sure you have double the amount of donut fabric!
4. Glue Gun
5. Stuffing – Walmart
With Spring finally (emphasis on finally) on the way, I’ve been dying to finally wear my boyfriend jeans. I’m in love with the relaxed fit and grungy look of the rips, and realistically, any type of jeans that are super comfy are good in my books! In this DIY I’m going to be showing you how to take an old pair of loose bellbottoms and transform them into some hip new boyfriend jeans! I’m usually pretty good at cleaning out my closet every season or so, so I actually just hit up the thrift store and bought a pair for $5, but for those of you who still have a few pairs of old bellbottoms hanging around at the back of your closet… it’s their time to shine again!!
What You Need:
1. Loose Fitting Jeans – Goodwill $5 (if you have loose fitting skinny jeans, just skip the steps that work towards removing the bellbottom!)
3. Safety Pins – Dollar Store
4. Tweezers – Revlon
One of my most frequently asked questions is usually referring to the skin I have on my laptop. You’ve probably seen it pop up in a video here and there, and unfortunately it’s not a DIY that I’ve done (but you could order a clear case and stick magazine/tumblr print outs in between!), so I figured I would outline the entire process of creating the collage and ordering the skin. I am in no way affiliated with decalgirl.com and am recommending them out of the positive experience that I’ve had with their products! Here’s how:
DIMENSIONS: 4992 (width) x 3328 (height) pixels ***a canvas a bit smaller than this will most likely not be pixelated, but I asked the DecalGirl support staff what the suggested minimum size is and this is what they gave me!***
GIMP, PicMonkey or Paint (PC Program)! I can’t go through the exact process of making a collage on these programs because I don’t have a lot of experience with them, but the steps in making the collage are extremely basic so each of these programs will have the capabilities! GIMP is a free downloadable program that is basically a replica of Photoshop and there are a ton of YT tutorials on how to use it!
PRICES: the cost of each skin will vary depending on your model/size/logo preference (if you want the apple logo to show through or want a skin for the inside too)
I recently got this amazing new purse from Romwe, so naturally I have to show you guys what’s in it! I’m obsessed with these videos, still unsure why, but it’s always comforting to see other girls with granola bar wrappers, receipts and empty gum packages littering the bottom of their purse. Don’t lie, you can totally relate. Here’s what’s in my purse!
Here are a few of things mentioned!
PURSE – Romwe
iPhone Case – Wildflower
Glasses – GlassesShop.com
Notebook & Agenda – Indigo
Sunnies – Nine West
Stabilo Pens – Michaels
“Boo You Whore” Top – Brandy Melville
Cardigan – Urban Outfitters
Easter is right around corner and some of you might be a) looking for an easter gift for a family or friend b) bored out of your face on this coming long weekend and looking for a DIY to do c) in need of a cuddly and cute friend or d) all of the above. So I would formally like to introduce you to Peep! Here’s how to make a Peep of your own!
1. Yellow & Orange Fleece – Fabricland (you can use however much you like just make sure you have enough to fold it in half!)
2. Black Felt – Dollarstore/Craftstore
4. Glue Gun
5. Pillow Stuffing – Walmart, Fabricland, Michaels
Make sure to check out my other no sew pillow DIYS!
I think it was Rihanna that I saw my first body chain on, and to be honest I was really, really confused. Long necklace contraption??? Cage??? And then as I kept seeing these dainty chains on top of bathing suits and simple black outfits, they started to grow on me. And naturally, that’s what lead to this DIY! Here’s how:
2. Chain (the length will vary depending on your size!) – Walmart/Michaels
3. Jump Rings – Michaels
4. Scissors/Wire Cutters
5. Charm – Michaels *must have a circle attachment on both ends*
I wish I could DIY everything I needed in my life out of mason jars, I really do. They’re just so cute and fun and trendy and ugh I love them so much! Today I’m going to be showing you how to make tumbler-like cups out of mason jars with a few things from the hardware store. I really wanted to find a method that didn’t require a drill, because not everyone has access or is too afraid to put a weapon of spinning death into their hands (aka me). So I improvised and am so happy with the results! Here’s how:
1. Mason Jars – Michaels Craft Store (Any Size)
3. Line Up Punch (1/8″) – Canadian Tire/Hardware Store ($8) *the line up punch is WAY cheaper than a drill if you don’t have one available to you! I also have no idea what its intended use is LOL but it worked wonders for me using just a hammer! yay for improvising*
4. Assorted Size Faucet Stem Rings – Hardware Store (In Plumbing Section $2)
5. Glue Gun
6. Spray Paint – Hardware/Craft Store
7. Washi Tape: http://www.cutetape.com
SONG: Calgary Bowery Grime Remix
In high school we didn’t have the 30 Hour Famine available to us, so this year I wanted to help support the cause by spreading word of how awesome it is and how you can help make a difference in someone’s life! The 30 Hour Famine is a youth movement directed towards engaging students and raising awareness of one of the world’s most pressing problems – a lack of food. By participating you can help change the lives of millions of children around the world by providing them with healthier futures by funding projects that tackle hunger! Here are some stats that you might not be aware of, they’re pretty eye-opening:
- In 2011, 18,000 kids under 5 died every day around the world due to starvation or malnutrition
- Worldwide, 870 million people (that’s 1 in 8) are hungry
- Nearly 1 in 5 people in developing world countries survive on less than $1.25/day
What World Vision Does:
WV helps to equip families with the tools they need to put food on their own tables. This includes running nutrition workshops, teaching parents improved farming techniques, helping families with tools, seeds and better breeds so they can grow healthier and more abundant crops and livestock, improving access to clean water for nutritious harvest and opening malnutrition centres when there’s a food crisis. Here’s the monetary break down, also super eye-opening.
- $25 can help families grow healthy veggies
- $50 can help provide families with 2 hens and a rooster – 150 eggs a year
- $75 can help provide lunches to school kids for a whole year
It’s amazing to think how little those monetary amounts seem to us, I wouldn’t think twice about spending $25 on a shirt I really liked, but in a developing country that could make a huge impact on providing a healthy future. I know the idea of not eating for 30 hours can be pretty terrifying, so if you’re not up for that there are so many other ways to get involved and support the cause; donating to a friend who’s participating, doing one of the 30 hour alternatives (giving up technology or furniture etc. – more info on WV!) or even just spreading awareness! I can’t wait to see what you guys do with the DIY mason jar cups, so if you’re at your school’s 30 Hour Famine with it make sure to send me famine pics using #laurDIY and #SeeHunger !! Either way though, I’m super excited to see how you guys decorate them!
